Meli Honey Soy Chicken Bao Buns
Ingredients:
500g boneless chicken thighs (or breasts), cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tbsp Meli Honey
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp grated ginger
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp corn starch mixed with 1 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
Bao buns (store-bought or homemade, about 6-8)
Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
Sliced cucumber (for garnish)
Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Chicken:
In a bowl, mix Meli Honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic to create the marinade. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and toss to coat. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or longer for more flavour.
Cook the Chicken:
Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for about 5-7 minutes, until browned and cooked through. If the sauce is too thin, mix the corn starch and water together and add it to the pan to thicken the sauce. Stir well to coat the chicken in the glossy sauce.
Steam the Bao Buns:
While the chicken is cooking, steam the bao buns according to the package instructions, or steam them in a bamboo steamer for about 5-6 minutes until soft and fluffy.
Assemble the Bao Buns:
Once the chicken is cooked and the bao buns are steamed, carefully open each bun and fill it with a spoonful of the honey soy chicken mixture.
Garnish and Serve:
Top with fresh cilantro, a few slices of cucumber for crunch, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds if desired.
